Prizes and awards

Énergir is recognized for its originality, excellence and respect for the environment. A few of the prizes and awards that have been given by or to Énergir over the past few years are described below.

LEED certification

LEED, which stands for “Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design,” is an international benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings; it promotes an overall approach to sustainability. 

Head office

In October, 2010, Gaz Métro's Head Office, located at 1717 du Havre in Montreal, has received LEED CI, Silver certification awarded by the Canada Green Building Council. This internationally recognized certification underscores Gaz Métro's commitment to the environment and sustainable development. The improvements carried out at Gaz Métro's Head Office have resulted, among other things, in a 20% reduction in water consumption, an annual decrease of $100,000 in heating costs, and an annual reduction of 1,000 tonnes of CO2 (equivalent to the annual emissions of almost 300 coaches).


Rouyn-Noranda business offic

Two years after the official opening of its Rouyn-Noranda business office, Gaz Métro received LEED Canada NC 2009 certification (for new constructions) today from the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC). Gaz Métro's business office is now the first building in Rouyn-Noranda to be certified LEED NC 2009, attesting that it meets some of the world's most stringent environmental standards. The Rouyn-Noranda office's recognition as a green building comes as the result of Gaz Métro's efforts in recent years to reduce its environmental footprint while continuing to improve its energy efficiency. It was made possible by efficient, innovative equipment and the use of natural gas, the primary power source in Gaz Métro's facilities.

Corporate Citizen of the Year

On September 25, 2009, the jury for the KORN/FERRY - L'ACTUALITÉ - NATIONAL Québec Prize of Excellence in Corporate Citizenship named Gaz Métro Corporate Citizen of the Year 2009 in the Social Engagement category during the Tremblant Forum 2009. Gaz Métro was honored for the redesign of its community investment program, including the realization of its groundbreaking community project, 80, allée de l'Avenir.

Launched in 2007, the Québec Prize of Excellence in Corporate Citizenship awarded by KORN/FERRY - L'ACTUALITÉ – NATIONAL, in collaboration with the HEC Montréal Chair in Ethical Management, aims to recognize Québec companies that stand out for their fair and respectful commercial practices. The jury does not try to evaluate all the practices of companies; rather, it rewards innovative and bold ethical accomplishments.

"Life in blue" campaign

Gaz Métro has won several awards in the advertising field with its “Life in blue” campaign. 2007 Digital Marketing Awards (Silver) Category "Other Services" for "Live the Blue" a Web site designed to promote a services organization.

Media Award from Infopresse
(for media strategies) Dailies and Weeklies Category for advertisements in La Presse on Page A3, in Le Devoir with the cover flap and for the blue section insert in La Presse.
Media Grand Prize for the year for the Dailies strategy.

Grafika Award
(for graphic design) Corporate Brochure category for its “Life in Blue” residential brochure.
TV/Movie category for its television commercials.

2004 Creative Advertising Contest of Publicity Club of MontrealCoq de bronze
(Consumer Acquisition Direct Marketing category) for direct marketing creations in the residential market.
Furthermore, four of the campaign's creators, Aline Béland, stylist; Philippe Sylvain, 3D animation; Normand Robert and Manon Boyer, photographers, were honoured.

2004 Cassies
(Canadian Advertising Success Stories) Silver Cassies in the “Off to a Good Start” category. This award was presented to Gaz Métro based on results obtained following the first year of the campaign.
Certificate of Excellence in the “Best Brainwave” category. This rewards creative strategies during advertising campaigns.

2004 Media Innovation Awards
(Canadian competition for media strategies)Silver Media Innovation Award for the Newspaper category. This was given to Gaz Métro for its strategic advertisements in La Presse on Page A3, in Le Devoir with the cover flap and for the blue section insert in La Presse.
No gold award was given for this category. With the silver award, Gaz Métro was therefore in the top position for this category.

Strategy Magazine Marketer of the year in the Services category.
This Canadian magazine honors the best marketing strategies in Canada. This award was given to Gaz Métro for its new image campaign.

Newspaper Ads category for the “24 hours in our blue house” insert

Marketer of the year
(gala organized by the Marketing magazine) One of the ten Canadian enterprises selected “Marketers That Mattered 2004” (enterprises that distinguished themselves in marketing in 2004)

Grands prix québécois de la qualité

Gaz Métro's excellent performance was recognized at the Grands Prix québécois de la qualité awards ceremony, organized by the Ministère du Développement économique, de l'Innovation et de l'Exportation and by the Mouvement québécois de la qualité. The company was awarded the Grand Prix - Category Large Service Company, Establishment or Large Company Subsidiary in recognition of its excellent results in quality improvement. 

Launched in 1999, Défi Excellence aims to make Gaz Métro a highly successful company through the implementation of best management practices. Since its launch, three QUALImeter audits conducted at Gaz Métro have helped measure progress and bring about significant improvements. In eight years, the company has taken a real leap forward in quality improvement. Its efforts have now been crowned,

Environmental awards

The environment is of tremendous importance to Gaz Métro. For this reason, we are honored to have been nominated among the 2002 finalists and laureates of the Special jury prize in the Quebec EcoGESte program. We also won the Leadership Award in 2002 in the MVR inc. oil and gas category – pipelines and gas distribution, and received special mention for every annual report submitted. 

Environmental management system

Sound environmental management is essential to a sustainable development approach. Gaz Métro's Environmental Management System (EMS) embodies this principle. The EMS covers Gaz Métro's natural gas distribution activities in Quebec. It has been registered in accordance with ISO 14001 by the Bureau de normalization du Québec – Recording of systems (BNQ-ES) since October 2000 and that certification has been renewed on each occasion since. Gaz Métro was the first natural gas distribution company in Canada to have its EMS registered under.
